The majority of the people posting here. Did not even read the original news post. Seriously, what the hell are you people thinking.
A FM needs to be able to read. If you can't even be bothered to read what Dave wrote and write a decent and thought out reply, how the hell is he to expect that you will read reported items and take detailed account notes of actions.
It is sad though becasue most of the idiots that wrote those applications will not even bother to read this either and those sames idiots will be the first to shout corruption and bash Dave for his decisions after the new staff are announced.
Icey's Final Thought:
Staff positions are a privilege not a right. They should be used to better the game and make playing more enjoyable for all. Take it from me, a man who has had more encounters with staff than they care to talk about. One can never truly begin to appreciate all their hard work and dedication until they have done it themselves.
A typical day in the life of an FM:
log in:
Check for reported items
Check all forums manually for items that should be reported but have slipped through the cracks
Reply to messages from players looking free stuff
Reply to messages from players with account issues
Reply to messages from players looking to sell or trade accounts
Explain to players that they need to file a support ticket for account issues and sales/trades
Explain to players that they need to be patient and wait for a GM/Admin
Fight off the urge to add said players to ignore list
Try to get dailes done
Check for reported items again and troll the forums for incidents
Generate forum games and comps for people who can't be bothered to participate and keep posting their id's or half ass crap then complain that their is no activity.
Repeat.

I thought that myself about applicants not even reading Dave's post. I guarantee 90% of those who have submitted an application skipped straight past the part that says no payment will be made!
Some of the applications are from players that are truly wanting to contribute, but most are wanting to get on a power trip.
Though I haven't been around MD for quite as long as some, I have been here long enough to see those who are here to help the game grow not just for what they can get out of it for their own gain! -

So if you are asking me if I attained the general purpose of their posts, then yes I did.
The problem I see is that the majority of individuals do appear to grasp the duties of the job. Hence my post.
I understand the need for new blood but I agree with catman there needs to be someone to teach them the ropes.
The former method was always to promote from within wherever possible.

Taking the point aspect away at this stage of the game is a great idea and I applaud Dave for that decision.
Points are scarce and are in high demand by giving the normal pay to staff it would give them an unfair advantage over others this stage of the game.
People need to realize that.
The long standing issue players have with staff is pay. Removing that from the equation ends the debate.

why?
because if your really loyal to this game and you respect it then there is no reason to munch off points for being a staff member.
also because if you do a bad job at being staff and you get demoded, there will be nothing to lose on daves side since he doesnt get free points. -

If they actually knew half of the bs and crap we have to deal with they would see that the amount of pay we get does not out weigh the headaches at times.
Take the idiots in this thread and multiply it by 50 then we must not forget the wonderful people who ask for our help with issues on a server other than ours and bitch when we tell them it's not ours. -

It is hard to earn points/money now that bank interest has been supressed. Plus only other way is by forum points and activity points and mugging.
If you want money you have to mug and you want competitions you have to rely on the generosity of fellow MD players. Like chevy guy yesterday gave away many things.
